James T. Lap is president of the Vietnamese Association
for Computing, Engineering Technology and Science (VACETS) 1999-2000. He
has served on the association's Executive Board and Administrative Committee
since 1995. He has been a member of the faculty at Pace University and at
New York City Technical College/The City University of New York (CUNY) since
the 1980's and at New York University since 1997. At New York City Technical
College, he has served as director of the computer center, director of computer
applications, and a member of the Computer Needs Committee. Prior to his
academic career, he was vice president of management information systems
for B. & P. Blando Co., Inc., in New York City. He is chair of the board
of directors of the Asian American Consulting Services, an executive board
member of the Asian American Higher Education Council at CUNY, and a member
of the Chinatown Manpower Project's Private Sector Advisory Committee. In
addition, he is active in the Library of Computer and Information Sciences,
the New York Area SAS Group, and the International Congress of Mathematicians
(ICM). He received an award from New York City in recognition of his distinguished
career as a computer professional, teacher and student adviser during Asian
American Heritage Month in 1998. In 1990, he was listed as an honored member
in Who's Who in U.S. Executives. He graduated from New York University majoring
in computer science and from Columbia University with a degree in computer
software engineering. |
